AEROSPACE – MORE THAN 30,000 JOBS TO FILL WITHIN THE NEXT 10 YEARS

Montréal, November 17, 2017 -  Suzanne M. Benoit, President of Aéro Montréal, issued the following statement today.

-------

Aéro Montréal, Québec’s aerospace cluster, welcomes Bombardier’s announcement that it is hiring 1,000 workers for the development of the Global 7000 business jet program.

There are numerous job opportunities in Québec’s aerospace industry at the moment, and many companies are in dire need of manpower. Within the next 10 years, 31,681 positions will need to be filled (8,816 newly-created positions and 22,865 positions resulting mainly from retirements)*.

However, our industry sector is aware of the needs in terms of labour. At Aéro Montréal, we have implemented programs to promote young people’s interest in aerospace careers, starting in elementary school and then at all levels of study. An announcement like today’s, combined with current hiring by other companies, demonstrates the vitality of Québec’s aerospace sector.

The jobs announced today add to the 200 job offers posted daily on Aéroportail.ca.

Québec has seven universities that offer programs in aerospace engineering. In addition, it is home to the only two internationally recognized specialized schools in Canada: the École nationale d’aérotechnique (ÉNA) and the École des métiers de l’aérospatiale de Montréal (EMAM). The Greater Montréal area has all the required assets to develop a pool of talent that is unique in the world for training the next generation of workforce in aerospace.
