ABOUT THE EVENT:

In 2018, the CCAA completed a labour market study that determined the need to recruit 55,000 new workers in Canadian aviation and aerospace by 2025. With the looming labour shortage in key occupations such as pilots and aircraft mechanics, our industry needs a meaningful strategy to ensure we can access highly skilled and trained talent from under tapped and/or underrepresented groups.

Two fruitful sessions in October 2018 showed a widespread consensus on the importance of workforce development initiatives in our industry. (The sessions were Transport Canada’s Aviation Summit and CCAA’s Labour Market Strategy Day). In particular, the breakout sessions at the CCAA meeting focused on the challenges to the recruitment and retention of Indigenous peoples and women in our industry. This generated much interest and was a great start -- now we are inviting you and other stakeholders to validate these findings and move the conversation forward.

Studies show that between 2006 and 2026, more than 500, 000 Indigenous people will be entering the labour market. Studies also shows that there are still very few women in those positions where we expect shortages – only 6% of mechanics and 7% of pilots are women. These results show an important opportunity for our industry.

Funded by the Government of Canada, the CCAA is hosting a series of focus group sessions across Canada. This is your chance to provide input and learn about supportive practices for the advancement of Indigenous persons and women in the aviation and aerospace industry. The data collected will contribute to our industry’s National Action Plan of best practices and recommendations for stakeholders.
