Workforce Development

For nearly 26 years, the Québec aerospace industry has enjoyed annual growth of 7.9%. This represents thousands of new jobs every year. Career options in the sector are stimulating, numerous and varied and are ripe for the picking.

  • According to Industry Canada, weekly wages in the aerospace industry are among the highest in Canada’s manufacturing sector.
  • More than 3,600 graduates join the aerospace workforce pool every year from technical and trade schools or universities.

The Greater Montréal region is home to educational institutions that are unique in the world. Their graduates are highly qualified and prized by employers.

Universities

In addition to their research centres, McGill, Concordia, Laval and Sherbrooke universities, as well as the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, École Polytechnique de Montréal and École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS), work jointly with the industry to offer training programs based on the needs of the aerospace industry. These programs encompass mechanical, electrical, software, aerospace, industrial and metallurgical engineering.

These universities also offer a Master’s degree in aerospace engineering sponsored by the Comité sectoriel de main-d’œuvre en aérospatiale au Québec (CAMAQ), whose mission is to adapt secondary, college and university education to the evolving needs of the industry.

Montreal Aerospace institute

The MAI is an organization of the Montreal Aerospace industry and universities, created to address Industry's present and future needs for engineering Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP). Each University is represented in the MAI by an Institute, created for this purpose, that normally serves as an "access door" for these Universities.
