On December 5, the Quebec Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, M. Sam Hamad, officially launched the Greener Aircraft Catalyst Project on the occasion of the third edition of the Aerospace Innovation Forum 2011.

This ambitious project stems from the 2010-2013 QRIS and is being financed by through public-private collaboration worth 150M$ over four years.

With the Greener Aircraft Catalyst Project, the Québec aerospace industry has been given the task of laying the foundations for the plane of the future, a greener aircraft equipped with intelligent systems, less costly to build and more efficient and effective.

Consequently, the aerospace industry is seeking to develop aircraft which, by incorporating several new technologies, will be lighter, more efficient, quieter and less carbon-intensive.

It was through a partnership of six aerospace industry companies, Bombardier Aerospace, Bell Helicopter Textron Canada, Pratt & Whitney Canada, Héroux-Devtek, Esterline CMC Electronics and Thales Canada, that the organization known as SA2GE was created. With its members at the helm, the organization will manage the development of the various aspects of the Greener Aircraft Catalyst Project.

It is by reinforcing the links between the key players in the sector that Quebec’s industry will mobilize in an effort to increase its competitiveness, M. Hamad noted in his opening speech at the Forum.

With those words, M. Hamad inaugurated the third edition of the Aerospace Innovation Forum 2011, the most important event of its kind in Canada. The two-day event, which took place at Palais des congrès de Montréal, brought together almost 700 industry decision-makers from 12 different countries.

In addition, 64 speakers, including M. Sam Hamad and the Honourable Christian Paradis, federal Minister of Industry, shared their knowledge on the theme of  Innovation in a sustainable supply chain : a global challenge.
